Guest Designer, Handmade Cards

Hedgehog Spin and Slide

This is the second card that I shared as guest designer on the MFT blog this month. It features the MFT Happy Hedgehogs stamp set, a fantastic new release for September. Check out the original post here.

The sentiment ‘I like how you roll’, from the MFT Happy Hedgehogs set, just cries out for a spin and slide card.

For something a bit different, I decided to make a circle card base. Align a circle die on a folded card base with the top of the circle die just off the top of the card. When die cut, this leaves a fold at the top intact and voila, you have a circle card base!

I die cut a circle and frame for the card, using one of the MFT single stitched line circle die-namics. I die cut a channel from the inner circle with one of the MFT circle spinner channels – this is how the hedgehog will roll around the card. I heat embossed the sentiment from the set, curving the stamp to follow the edge of the circle. Over everything, I blended distress inks in oranges, reds, and yellows. To help the card base stand out more, I used the MFT Chevron grid stencil to add a pattern.

To build the slider, you need foam tape and a penny or button. I added foam tape behind the circle and frame, making sure to leave enough room for the penny to move. I added two small foam dots to the middle of the penny (you could use an MFT spin and slide disc here instead). Before adding to my card base, I dusted all the sides of the foam tape with powder. The powder helps to reduce the chance of the penny sticking anywhere as it moves.

The hedgehog is coloured with copic markers and cut out with the coordinating die. I added him to the penny mechanism, and finally tested out the card. It was so fun to watch him spin and roll!

If you haven’t made an interactive card before, I’d really recommend giving it a go.
